About withsalt
Every recipe you find online is a first draft. The useful version is the one someone arrived at on the fourth attempt — ten minutes longer because their oven runs cool, half the sugar, olive oil instead of butter because that’s what was in the cupboard.
That knowledge exists. It’s just scattered through comment sections nobody reads, or written in pencil in the margin of a book on somebody else’s shelf.
withsalt keeps it next to the recipe. Cook something, and you can leave a note on what you’d do differently. Change a recipe enough and it becomes your own version, still linked back to where it came from. Over time a recipe stops being one person’s instructions and becomes what a lot of people actually learned making it.
What’s here
- Recipes and cocktails you can browse by how long you’ve actually got, rather than by category.
- A hands-free cook mode with timers for each step, built for a phone propped against the kettle.
- Collections for the things you want again, and a feed of what people you follow are cooking.
What’s not here
No adverts. No three paragraphs about someone’s holiday before the ingredient list. No invented ratings, and no AI-generated recipes that nobody has cooked. Everything on withsalt was written by a person.
Early days
withsalt is new, and small. If something is broken or missing, we’d genuinely rather hear about it than not — tell us.
